‘The way he helped the team’: Vitor Pereira blown away by 25-year-old Wolves star

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has praised Jorgen Strand Larsen following his standout performance in their 2-1 victory over Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium in front of 30,950 fans.

The 25-year-old striker, who joined Wolves on loan from Spanish club Celta de Vigo in the summer of 2024, netted both goals for the visitors.

Larsen opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a header past Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. He then doubled Wolves’ lead just two minutes into the second half with a low drive into the bottom corner.

With the win, Wolves now sit 17th in the Premier League table, with 26 points from 29 matches. They are nine points clear of the relegation zone and look set to maintain their top-flight status for the next season.

After the match, Pereira was full of praise for Larsen, highlighting not only his two goals but his overall contribution to the team. He told BBC Sport, “Jorgen Strand Larsen was fantastic, not just for his goals but for the way he helped the team. He looked more confident today, and I think he was excellent. He definitely deserves it.”

As for Wolves’ survival, it seems unlikely they will face relegation. They need to lose three more Premier League games, while Ipswich Town and/or Leicester City would have to win three of theirs to catch up. Ipswich has only won three games all season, and Leicester has just four victories, so the chances of Wolves dropping down seem slim. Additionally, Wolves are in decent form, having won three of their last six Premier League matches.
