Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes Brighton & Hove Albion will struggle to match the Reds’ quality in their Carabao Cup fourth-round clash on Wednesday.
“Brighton aren’t on the same level as Liverpool,” Owen said. “The Seagulls have shown promise, but they lack the depth and consistency to compete with top-tier teams like Liverpool.”
Owen’s prediction comes after Brighton’s heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where they squandered a two-goal lead in the final minutes.
“Fabian Hurzeler’s side will likely suffer another defeat against Liverpool,” Owen added. “The Reds’ squad depth and experience will prove too much for Brighton.”
Liverpool, the reigning Carabao Cup champions, travel to the American Express Stadium seeking to extend their impressive run. Jurgen Klopp’s side has suffered only one defeat since the start of the season.
Key Matchups and Predictions
Brighton’s attack, led by Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso, will face a stern test against Liverpool’s solid defense. The Reds’ midfield, marshaled by Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara, will look to control the tempo.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 0-3 Liverpool
