The Premier League has explained the reason behind the disallowance of Nikola Milenkovic’s goal against Southampton.
Milenkovic believed he had scored to make it 4-1 for Forest with a header from an Anthony Elanga free-kick in the second half. Referee Anthony Taylor initially awarded the goal but was instructed by VAR to review the decision on the pitchside monitor, ultimately overturning his call.
The Premier League Match Centre clarified the situation in a post on social media platform X: “The referee’s goal decision was checked by VAR, who determined that Wood interfered with play from an offside position. After an on-field review, the referee reversed his original decision, disallowing the goal.”
Despite Milenkovic’s disallowed effort, the Reds maintained their 3-1 lead, thanks to first-half goals from Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and top scorer Chris Wood.
