David Moyes praised his Everton team for looking like “a different outfit” after their 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, which secured his first win since returning to the club.
The Toffees dominated Spurs in the first half, racing to a 3-0 lead before holding off a late Spurs comeback. For Moyes, securing the win was the key focus, but he also took great satisfaction in the dominant performance, despite the visitors’ two goals in the final 15 minutes making the scoreline closer than it should have been.
After the match, Moyes said: “I’m really pleased we could give everyone something to cheer about. We nearly didn’t go home happy, but we played so well in the first half, scoring three and perhaps could have had a couple more—one hit the post after a big save from the keeper. I thought the first-half performance was excellent.”
“The goal was to get the fourth and ensure nothing was at risk. If Tottenham had scored, their attacking players would always put us under pressure.”
“Dom [Calvert-Lewin] had a chance to make it four, but he played very well today, and in the end, it was a really good win for us.”
Moyes also singled out several players for praise, including Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and Jesper Lindström. Calvert-Lewin ended a long goal drought with a clever finish, while Ndiaye scored Everton’s second and Lindström provided the assist for the third.
Reflecting on the attacking performance of a team that had previously struggled in front of goal, Moyes said: “The goals were excellent. Jesper did well with a great cross for the third, and the build-up for the second was really good, allowing Ili to score.”
“Overall, I’m really happy with the three points. It wouldn’t have mattered how we played today, as long as we won—that was the big thing for me.”
He concluded: “The whole team looked like a different outfit today. They played really well and passed it well when the right opportunities came.”
