Nottingham Forest to sign trickster compared to Lionel Messi but the deal has a twist – journalist

Nottingham Forest are set to make moves in the January transfer window, which is now open for Premier League clubs. A striker is likely to be a top priority, with Forest previously linked to Igor Jesus, the Botafogo forward, who is drawing interest from several English clubs this month.

Mathys Tel was also considered by Forest. The Bayern Munich forward, who has impressed star Harry Kane since breaking into the first team, is expected to remain in Germany, which will disappoint Forest.

It seems that Nuno Espirito Santo’s focus this month will be on attacking reinforcements. Douglas Luiz had also been linked with a move to Forest, but now bigger clubs are competing for the midfielder’s signature.

Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of a winger also appears to be on the agenda, with an intriguing twist in one potential deal. Turkish journalist Oguz Oruc reports that Forest have agreed to sign Marcus Edwards from Sporting CP, but the winger will initially join Olympiacos on loan for the rest of the season.

Edwards, a left-footed winger, has fallen out of favor in Portugal, having made just one league start this season and scoring three goals across all competitions. Reports suggest that Edwards is excited about the prospect of returning to the Premier League, having previously come through the ranks at Tottenham before moving to Vitoria after just one senior appearance.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino once praised Edwards’ talent, drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi after the winger impressed in a Champions League match against Spurs. Peter Crouch also highlighted his brilliance, describing a near-goal as “almost the goal of the season.”

Though it may seem unusual that Edwards will initially move to Olympiacos, Forest are in need of a left-footed winger, and his arrival could provide a much-needed boost in that area.

Edwards has made 120 appearances for Sporting CP, scoring 24 goals and contributing 26 assists. If the deal goes through as reported, it would be an exciting addition for Forest, especially with the 26-year-old fitting the profile of the kind of player they are targeting. Fans will be hopeful that he can make a significant impact when he joins the squad next season.
