Offer accepted: 49ers now agree move for “top-class” £15,000-a-week player to leave Leeds United

Leeds United are close to finalizing a deal that will see one of their squad members leave in January as they aim to reduce the size of Daniel Farke’s team.

Despite being at the top of the Championship, Leeds are still looking to strengthen their squad this winter, according to reports. The club is reportedly considering a new goalkeeper after a series of errors from Illan Meslier, while second-choice keeper Karl Darlow played in the 1-0 victory over Harrogate Town.

In addition to a potential goalkeeper signing, Leeds have revived interest in Mergim Berisha to bolster their attack for the remainder of the season. However, to make room for Berisha, a forward must depart, and this seems to be taking shape at Elland Road.

According to Hull Live, Leeds have agreed to loan out Joe Gelhardt for the rest of the season, with the forward set to join Hull City. The move could be confirmed within the next 48 hours, following Gelhardt’s absence from the squad against Harrogate Town. The deal is expected to be finalized soon, with Gelhardt eligible for Hull’s match against Millwall on Saturday. It’s also noted that the striker was impressed by Hull’s recent 3-3 draw against Leeds, solidifying his desire to join the Tigers.

Gelhardt’s departure isn’t unexpected, as he’s played just nine minutes in the Championship this season and started once in the Carabao Cup. Though Farke has praised Gelhardt as “a really top-class human being and a quality player,” he had previously opened the door to his exit due to limited playing time. Farke acknowledged the competition for places in attack but emphasized his respect for Gelhardt’s hard work and character.

Gelhardt, who still has two and a half years remaining on his £15,000-a-week contract, will have an opportunity for first-team football with Hull, allowing all parties to reassess his future in the summer without the pressure of his contract nearing its end.
