Tottenham fans will love what Fabrizio Romano just said about Micky van de Ven

Tottenham fans have every reason to be pleased with the club’s firm stance regarding one of their key players this summer. Spurs have kicked off the transfer window with real intent, securing three new arrivals already—Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Determined to avoid another season languishing in the bottom half of the table, Roberto De Zerbi is setting his sights on a European push next term. A significant squad reshuffle looks necessary to achieve that, and Tottenham’s recruitment team have been working tirelessly to make that happen.

Outgoings are also on the cards, with Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario among the most likely to depart, while several other players have also attracted reported interest.

Van de Ven off the market
This week brought news that Barcelona had set their sights on Spurs’ defensive star Micky van de Ven as they explore summer reinforcements at the back.

However, Fabrizio Romano has offered reassurance to Tottenham supporters. He wrote on X: “Understand no move to Liverpool or Barcelona is planned for Micky van de Ven. Tottenham see the centre back as a key part of the project, Roberto De Zerbi wants him to stay. No exit planned this summer.”

Van de Ven’s current deal runs until 2029, but given his value to the side, it wouldn’t be surprising if he were offered improved terms to reflect his importance.

With Cristian Romero widely expected to depart after the World Cup—apparently seeking a fresh challenge—Spurs can ill afford to lose both of their starting centre-backs. Van Hecke appears to have been brought in with Romero’s exit in mind, and the Dutchman’s arrival is a real statement. Now established as one of the Premier League’s finest defenders, he looks set to form an all-Dutch, double-‘van’ centre-back pairing at Spurs next season.

That prospect owes much to Tottenham’s resolve to keep Van de Ven—a stance they should hold firm on, no matter what offers come in. The club have a real gem in the Dutchman, and replacing him would be a daunting task, particularly given the number of other areas De Zerbi still needs to address this summer.

Of course, Van de Ven’s personal feelings on staying remain unclear, but a new contract would likely put any doubts to rest before the window closes.
