According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur do not plan to join the race for Mason Greenwood this summer.
The 24-year-old is expected to depart Olympique Marseille during the upcoming window, and several clubs have shown interest in the English forward.
Since new Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi previously coached Greenwood at Marseille, French reports suggested the Italian tactician was considering a surprise reunion with the player.
Marseille are reportedly looking to offload Greenwood as they navigate financial difficulties, and Spurs were mentioned among a number of European clubs allegedly preparing a £43.3 million bid.
However, the Daily Mail have quickly dismissed those claims, clarifying that De Zerbi is not looking to bring Greenwood to Tottenham.
Among the clubs monitoring Greenwood’s situation is AS Roma, though the Serie A side are believed to be far from matching Marseille’s asking price for the former England international.
Any future deal would also benefit Manchester United, who included a 40% sell-on clause when Greenwood left permanently last year.
Tottenham’s name has surfaced in transfer talk largely due to the connection between Greenwood and De Zerbi, with the manager previously calling the player ‘exceptional’—but he is not planning to pursue the striker.
Greenwood impressed at Marseille last season, recording 26 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, including 16 goals and seven assists in 32 league matches to help secure Europa League qualification.
Despite his strong form, Marseille’s financial constraints have left them considering a sale of the former United academy product.
Still, Tottenham are focusing their search for attacking recruits elsewhere, while also progressing with plans to strengthen other areas of De Zerbi’s squad.
Spurs have already agreed personal terms with Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is also a target for Manchester United and Arsenal.
