‘People forget’: Fabio Silva now offers one major reason why it hasn’t worked out for him at Wolves

Fabio Silva has been speaking about why it hasn’t worked out for him at Wolves, offering one key reason behind his struggles.

Fabio Silva is currently midway through a season-long loan at Las Palmas, whom he joined on transfer deadline day last summer.

Most expected Silva to leave Molineux permanently.

Ultimately, no suitable proposals were made and Wolves ended up loaning him to Las Palmas.

Silva has actually done quite well so far over in Spain, having scored seven goals in 18 games – with two of those coming against Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Speculation will be rife again about Silva once his loan finishes and he returns to Wolves.

But him sticking around at Molineux seems unlikely, with the player again opening up about how difficult it’s been for him.

Fabio Silva speaks out on his struggles at Wolves and says people forget his age

Silva joined Wolves in the summer of 2020 for a £35.6 million transfer fee.

The move really raised eyebrows, with Silva only 18 at the time and having not played much senior football with Porto.

He came to Molineux and just months later, there was additional pressure on him after Raul Jimenez suffered that awful skull fracture against Arsenal.

He had to play more than Wolves intended him to. The season after, Silva then struggled for minutes, with Bruno Lage showing unwavering faith in Jimenez, despite the Mexican being nowhere near the player he used to be.

Silva has been a flop at Wolves, but the player has defended his stint at the club and suggests people have never really factored in his age.

He told The Athletic: “Sometimes people forget the age I am because I started early. I had to improve too quickly at Wolves. People expected one thing and sometimes forgot my age because of the price. When people come from other places or to take pictures they say, ‘I’ve seen you for many years, you must be 25 or 26 now’, but I have to say, ‘No, I’m only 22’.

“Everything around me in my life was too quick.

“The idea was to stay two or three years at Porto and play some games. But in football, I didn’t control some things and, in that moment, I couldn’t do anything.”

Silva likely to leave Wolves this summer

There can be some sympathy with Silva, because there was pressure on him at Wolves from the get-go with his huge transfer fee.

He obviously didn’t choose that fee, and Silva has even admitted previously he didn’t necessarily want to join Wolves when he did.

The finances that were being talked about ultimately ended up bringing the move to fruition, and Silva then had to make it work.

But he was too young and too raw, and he’s been on the back foot ever since.

It was reported by journalist Liam Keen in November that Silva is almost 100% certain to leave Wolves in the summer.

But we will see if suitable offers arrive for the Portuguese striker this time. Wolves should expect to make a loss, although Atletico Madrid are keen on Silva, and they have historically paid big money for number nines.
