Wolves have secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup after defeating Blackburn Rovers 2-0 on Sunday.
Vitor Pereira’s team delivered a professional performance at Ewood Park, with goals from Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha helping them see off the Championship side. Wolves dominated the game, particularly in the second half, and controlled play throughout.
Although they struggled in the early stages, adjusting to the conditions as Blackburn came out with high intensity, Wolves’ superior quality ultimately shone through. BBC pundit Micah Richards was impressed by several players, singling out a trio for their standout performances.
Wolves will likely be a team many will want to avoid in the next round, especially given Pereira’s clear focus on the competition and the team’s determination after last season’s disappointing FA Cup exit to Coventry City.
Richards was particularly impressed by Hwang Hee-chan, who left the field at halftime due to injury, and Goncalo Guedes. Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “We talk about Cunha a lot, and rightly so, he’s Player of the Match again. But I thought the whole team was excellent. Hwang was really good before his injury, and Guedes also showed his class. Technically, he’s a brilliant player, and while he sometimes runs into the same spaces as others, if he just had a bit more composure in front of goal or in his final pass, he could be even better.”
Richards also highlighted Nelson Semedo’s solid contribution, noting his consistent performance for Wolves.
It’s been a pleasant surprise to hear a prominent pundit praise Guedes, as he’s certainly earned recognition. When he joined Wolves for £27.5 million in the summer, few expected him to still be at Molineux at this stage. Having spent recent years on loan at Benfica and Villarreal, there were doubts about his commitment to Wolves. However, Guedes has been one of the season’s bright spots, with 5 goals and 5 assists in 25 appearances, proving his worth with 10 goal contributions and a notable work ethic.
