Jamie Carragher has evaluated David Moyes’ return to Everton and highlighted one key advantage he has over Sean Dyche’s tenure.
Moyes has seamlessly settled back into life at Goodison Park, which isn’t surprising given his previous successful spell with the club. This ease of integration was something Dyche struggled with during his time at Everton, as his dismissal left him wishing the club well.
Moyes’ more attacking approach contrasts with Dyche’s tactics, which seemed to be a major factor in Dyche’s departure. Carragher has pointed out a significant change at Everton, something Dyche lacked.
Speaking on The Overlap (1:04:24), Carragher noted that while Moyes and Dyche aren’t drastically different in their playing styles, Moyes’ connection with Everton is undeniable. “Moyes is an Evertonian, because he was there for so long. That was never there with Dyche; he didn’t have the connection with the supporters,” Carragher explained.
It’s clear that Everton fans hold Moyes in far higher regard than Dyche. From the players’ perspective, Dyche’s methods didn’t sit well, which led to his departure. Moyes’ first tenure at Everton set a high bar that no manager, including Dyche, could easily match.
In just two games, Moyes has transformed Everton’s prospects, steering the club away from relegation and offering hope for a more secure future in the Premier League. While the job isn’t finished yet, the outlook at Everton is much brighter after Dyche’s time at the helm.
