Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder is poised to leave the club this January, with Feyenoord, a Champions League side, emerging as one of the frontrunners for his signature.
With Moder’s contract expiring this summer, this transfer window represents Brighton’s final opportunity to secure a fee for the player, who was signed from Lech Poznan for approximately £7 million in 2020.
Feyenoord, who currently have Brighton’s Ibrahim Osman on loan for the season, are reportedly aiming to complete a deal for Moder, valued at around £1.5 million.
A post by @1908nl stated: “Feyenoord is doing business again with Brighton & Hove Albion FC and is in talks to purchase Jakub Moder.”
The 25-year-old Poland international has fully recovered from a long-term ACL injury and is widely expected to leave Brighton this window, with Everton, Leicester, and Wolves all said to be interested in him.
Moder nearly joined Leicester during the previous transfer window as part of a deal that would have brought Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Brighton, but the move collapsed when Dewsbury-Hall chose Chelsea, prompting the Seagulls to pursue other midfield options.
Under manager Fabian Hurzeler, Moder has seen only eight minutes of Premier League action this season and is behind several players in the midfield hierarchy, including Carlos Baleba, Yasin Ayari, Mats Wieffer, Matt O’Riley, Jack Hinshelwood, Ferdi Kadioglu, and Diego Gomez.
He played the final 12 minutes of Brighton’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Norwich last Saturday and has made two starts in the Carabao Cup, against Wolves and Liverpool. In total, he has made 70 appearances for Brighton, contributing two goals and four assists.
In November, Hurzeler spoke about Moder’s situation, saying: “He had a long injury, a serious injury. Before that, he was an impressive player. It’s our responsibility to get him back into shape, and he’s looking good.
“He needs game time and minutes to regain his fitness, and I hope he stays fit and continues training. Like all players, it’s about their will and motivation to improve every day. If he does that, I’m sure he can play an important role in our squad, as he has a lot of skills. He’s fast, versatile, and good with both feet—qualities that make him a valuable asset to the team.”
