Fabrizio Romano: Aston Villa Holding Exit Talks After ‘Approach’ for £26m Star

Galatasaray has made an approach for Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos, who is available to leave the Premier League club this January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Villa have reportedly opened talks regarding the Brazilian’s potential move to Turkey, though Carlos has multiple options with just over two weeks left in the winter transfer window.

Romano also states that Carlos will not be part of Villa’s pursuit of Sevilla’s Loic Bade, despite rumors of a potential swap deal with the La Liga club.

Aston Villa are preparing for a busy end to the winter transfer window after securing Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen, with at least two new defenders now on their radar.

Galatasaray Interested in Diego Carlos

The Turkish club has approached Aston Villa for the 31-year-old Brazilian centre-back, who has several possible destinations for a January move.

Carlos, who earns £100,000 a week, was previously linked with an exit from Villa Park but stayed and has played a key role for Unai Emery’s side this season. He has made 17 appearances across all competitions, 10 of which were in the Premier League, and has started 14 matches.

Villa are unlikely to recoup the £26 million they paid Sevilla for Carlos in 2022, given that his contract runs until June 2026, with only 18 months remaining.

Currently sitting eighth in the Premier League, Villa are preparing for a busy transfer window, with defensive reinforcements a priority. They are reportedly targeting Sevilla’s Loic Bade and Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza, in addition to securing Malen’s services.
