Leicester City star left out of squad as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first transfer edges closer to completion

Leicester City’s search for a new signing appears to be nearing its end.

Despite putting in significant effort over the first 12 days of the transfer window, the Foxes have yet to secure any of their targets.

A defender has been a priority for Ruud van Nistelrooy, who recently missed out on Max Aarons, now set to join Valencia. However, there is positive news surrounding another target, as he was excluded from his team’s squad in anticipation of a move to the King Power Stadium.

Woyo Coulibaly, who has long been linked with Leicester, was reportedly saying his goodbyes, according to Friday reports from Di Marzio. Currently playing for Serie A club Parma, the full-back looks almost certain to join Leicester after being omitted from Parma’s squad for their defeat to Genoa.

Though he missed last weekend’s game due to illness, the timing suggests he may be preparing for his move to Leicester. Van Nistelrooy declined to comment on Coulibaly after Leicester’s 1-0 win against Queens Park Rangers, stating he would not discuss any signings until they were officially confirmed.

In terms of cost, Leicester’s financial situation remains tight, with concerns about sustainability and profitability influencing their recruitment strategy. As a result, the Foxes are targeting affordable full-backs in this window. Coulibaly, whose contract expires in 2025, is expected to join for a modest fee, believed to be around £3 million. Able to play both right-back and left-back, he is likely to be brought in as a competitor for James Justin, who has faced criticism from fans this season.
