Tottenham striker Will Lankshear took to Instagram to express both gratitude and regret after his eventful night against Galatasaray. The 19-year-old marked his first goal for Spurs in the 18th minute, delivering a confident finish to level the score. However, his celebration was short-lived as he received a second yellow card just after the hour mark, leaving Tottenham struggling with a man down in a 3-1 loss.
The red card seemed a product of Lankshear’s youthful eagerness, his challenge reflecting his frustration as Spurs fought to recover. The striker, visibly remorseful, shared his thoughts with the fans on social media, acknowledging the impact of his actions on the team.
“Firstly, I’d like to apologise for letting my teammates and the fans down yesterday,” he posted. “I will learn from this experience and I am determined to keep on working hard and improving my game.”
Lankshear also took a moment to celebrate his milestone, adding, “On a more positive note, yesterday I scored my first professional goal, something I’ve dreamed about since I was a little boy. I wanted to thank everyone who has helped me along my journey, and hopefully, this is the first of many for Tottenham.”
He closed with appreciation for the Spurs faithful, saying, “A massive thank you to all the traveling fans who came out yesterday to support. On to the next game.”
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou shared his perspective, expressing confidence in Lankshear’s potential growth from the incident. “Will took his goal well and worked hard for the team,” Postecoglou said. “The red card, it was a bit of over-enthusiasm in that moment, but he’ll learn from that.”
As Tottenham prepares for Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town, Lankshear is expected to make the bench, with Dominic Solanke likely reclaiming his starting spot.
