Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks to sign yet another midfielder this summer, as they look to bolster their engine room alongside deals for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.
Having already addressed their defensive needs with the arrivals of Jan-Paul Van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, and Andy Robertson, Spurs are now turning their attention to the middle of the pitch.
Negotiations are already underway for Newcastle’s Tonali, with the Italian international having agreed personal terms and keen on a move to north London. Meanwhile, reports suggest Tottenham are closing in on a personal-terms agreement with Fernandes, indicating the Portuguese is also eager to join De Zerbi’s project.
Clearly intent on adding further depth in midfield, Spurs are being linked with a growing list of targets.
Tottenham Open Talks for Another Midfielder
According to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera (via TEAMtalk), Tottenham have now initiated discussions for Roma midfielder Manu Kone and are weighing up a £40m move this summer.
Kone is said to be keeping his options open regarding his next club, but he is attracted by the prospect of joining Tottenham. The Frenchman would represent a more cost-effective option compared to Tonali and Fernandes, who could command fees of £100m and £80m respectively.

Currently featuring for France at the World Cup, Kone started in midfield against Iraq in their most recent outing. A strong tournament could see interest in his services intensify further.
Incoming Midfielders Could Trigger Exits
With Spurs chasing multiple midfield additions, some of their current squad members may be shown the door.
According to reliable journalist David Ornstein, young midfielder Lucas Bergvall has already informed Tottenham of his desire to leave in search of regular playing time. With new arrivals on the horizon, the Swede may find first-team opportunities increasingly limited.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs will grant his wish, but should they secure deals for their primary targets, a departure for Bergvall would not come as a surprise.
