Yves Bissouma, a Europa League winner, has officially parted ways with Tottenham Hotspur after the club confirmed his exit following the expiration of his contract.
At the conclusion of last season, manager Roberto De Zerbi indicated that only 10 to 12 players figured into his long-term vision for Tottenham—a clear signal that a major squad rebuild was imminent. Unfortunately for Bissouma, it seems he wasn’t part of those plans.
The Mali international joined Spurs from Brighton in the summer of 2022 and went on to make 111 appearances across all competitions. Though his stint in North London had its ups and downs, he remained well-liked by many fans and contributed to several memorable moments. Bissouma found the net twice during his four-year tenure, both goals coming in the 2024/25 season, and departs having lifted the Europa League trophy in a Tottenham shirt.
Tottenham Confirm Bissouma’s Departure
Bissouma’s future had been in doubt for some time, with his contract winding down and little sign of an extension being offered. While his talent was never in question, inconsistency, costly mistakes, and several off-field issues prevented him from becoming a cornerstone of the team. As a result, he made just 11 appearances last season across all competitions.
Still, fans will remember his contributions during Tottenham’s Europa League-winning run, when he stepped up while the squad was thin on midfield options. Shortly after announcing a new contract for Ben Davies, Tottenham confirmed Bissouma’s exit in an official statement: “We can confirm the departure of Yves Bissouma following the conclusion of his contract.”
His exit marks the first senior departure of the summer window as De Zerbi begins reshaping his squad for next season.
Six U21 Players Also Leave Tottenham
The club additionally confirmed that Pele Arganese-McDermott, Tyrell Ashcroft, Leo Black, Dante Cassanova, Matthew Craig, and Calum Logan will all leave upon the expiry of their contracts. Several of these youngsters came through Tottenham’s academy and featured regularly for the U21 side.
Craig made a senior appearance for Spurs on the final day of the 2022/23 season against Leeds, while Dante Cassanova was frequently included in the first-team matchday squad, including during Tottenham’s 2024/25 Europa League campaign.
