Tottenham have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with their primary defensive target and are now preparing what they hope will be a decisive third offer.
So far this summer, Spurs have brought in two defenders—Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi—both on free transfers. The experienced duo are expected to add much-needed stability to a side that has often been inconsistent.
However, Tottenham are not finished reinforcing their backline. Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke is seen as the real standout target for manager Roberto De Zerbi.
De Zerbi previously coached Van Hecke at Brighton and is keen to reunite with the Dutch centre-back in north London. The 26-year-old started the Netherlands’ World Cup opener alongside Virgil van Dijk.
Tottenham have already seen two bids—worth £40 million and £50 million—rejected by Brighton. But according to trusted journalist Matteo Moretto, progress has been made, with personal terms now agreed.
Moretto, who collaborates with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, posted on X: “Tottenham and Jan Paul van Hecke have reached an agreement on the contract, pending the clubs to definitively close the negotiation.”
Attention now turns to the expected third bid, which both Ben Jacobs and TEAMtalk have confirmed is on the way. Over the weekend, Football Insider suggested the offer will be in the region of £55 million.
With Van Hecke having agreed terms and entering the final year of his Brighton contract, Spurs will be optimistic about getting a deal done.
In other transfer news, Tottenham are also pushing forward with a bold move for Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali. The De Zerbi connection is again relevant, as both he and Tonali come from the same Italian city, Brescia.
Tonali is said to be open to joining Spurs, though agreeing a fee with Newcastle could prove challenging—the Magpies are holding out for £100 million with no room for negotiation.
Additionally, Tottenham are targeting Manchester City’s Savinho for around £60 million. Should that fall through, Ben Jacobs has suggested Spurs could intervene in Manchester United’s pursuit of Crysencio Summerville, with a recent approach already made to West Ham.
