Radu Dragusin has pledged never to take playing for Tottenham Hotspur for granted again. The 24-year-old has endured a nightmare spell with injuries since arriving in January 2024.
His lowest point came in February 2025, when a serious ACL injury to his right knee during a Europa League tie against Elfsborg sidelined him for the best part of a year.
In total, that setback cost him 59 matches for both Tottenham and the Romanian national team. He managed only 11 competitive appearances for Spurs in the 2025-26 campaign, meaning he has featured just 48 times across all competitions since joining the north London club.
Unsurprisingly, this has fuelled growing speculation that the former Genoa defender could leave N17 soon, perhaps even this summer.
What Dragusin said about his 2025-26 season
Dragusin has always been a wholehearted, combative player—traits that have endeared him to many Spurs fans. Yet the combination of his injury troubles and intense competition for places in central defence has pushed him towards the fringes of the squad.
Still contracted to Tottenham until 2030, the Romanian has plenty of time to turn his Spurs career into a success story. Judging by his recent message to followers on Instagram, he appears determined to make that happen.
“The 2025/26 season reminded me just how much football means to me,” Dragusin wrote. “After a long period on the sidelines, being back on the pitch with my teammates, wearing the Spurs and Romania shirt again, was something I’ll never take for granted. Doing what I love most felt even more special after everything it took to get back. A huge thank you to everyone who supported me. Your messages, encouragement and belief meant more than you know.”
How impressive were Dragusin’s underlying numbers in 2025-26?
Dragusin may have logged just 10 Premier League appearances totalling 515 minutes last season, but he certainly made them count.
According to FotMob, his 2.80 interceptions per 90 minutes were the highest of any Premier League centre-back in 2025-26. His 13.1 defensive contributions per game ranked him in the top 2.2 per cent of players in his position. Additionally, 1.40 blocked shots and 8.04 clearances per 90 placed him in the top 4.4 per cent of top-flight central defenders in both categories.
He ended the campaign with a 100 per cent dribble success rate, while also winning 3.32 aerial duels and registering 1.57 touches in the opposition box per game.
At just 24 years old and with four years remaining on his contract, those writing off Dragusin’s Tottenham future may want to reconsider—if he can stay fit, he could flourish in 2026-27.
