De Zerbi Loves Him: Club Working on ‘Shock’ Deal to Sign ‘Frightening’ Tottenham Star

Tottenham Braced for Critical Summer as Juventus Eye Shock Move for Djed Spence

Tottenham Hotspur could be in for a chaotic summer transfer window—and not just when it comes to new arrivals.

After failing to secure European qualification, Spurs find themselves at a crossroads. Several players who joined in recent years had expected regular continental football, making this summer a pivotal moment for the club.

A late-season resurgence under Roberto De Zerbi spared Tottenham from a shock relegation scrap, but with the 2026/27 campaign on the horizon, the upcoming transfer window carries huge weight. De Zerbi will want to hold onto his key men—though keeping them may prove difficult.

Juventus Circling for Djed Spence

According to reports from Italy, Juventus are quietly working on a ‘shock’ deal to sign Tottenham defender Djed Spence ahead of the summer window.

The Serie A giants are said to be making discreet moves behind the scenes. Interestingly, Juve initially targeted Andy Robertson before Spurs won the race for his signature. Now, their attention has turned to Spence.

Juventus sporting director Marco Ottolini knows the England international well from the defender’s loan spell at Genoa, where Ottolini previously worked.

Spence endured a mixed campaign in North London, drifting in and out of the starting XI—yet he remained an important figure for Spurs. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham would entertain a sale, or if Spence himself would fancy a fresh start.

Why Spurs Must Keep Hold of Spence

Heading into the 2026/27 season, Tottenham need to retain Djed Spence—a player once described as ‘frightening’ by former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman.

His ability to play on either side of defence, and even push further forward, makes him a valuable tactical asset. De Zerbi has also called him a ‘big player’, underlining his importance to the squad.

Given that Tottenham are unlikely to command a huge fee for Spence if they sell him this summer, offloading him would make little financial or sporting sense.

With several departures already expected when the window opens later this month, keeping core players like Spence will be vital as De Zerbi looks to rebuild.
