He’s better than Savinho: Spurs line up move to sign £60m English star

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2025/26 campaign finally came to a close after what felt like an endless season, but at least the club managed to preserve its Premier League status.

Just one year ago, Spurs were celebrating a memorable Europa League victory under Ange Postecoglou, dancing across London. Not long after that triumph, however, Daniel Levy dismissed the Australian manager.

Tottenham have since endured consecutive 17th-place finishes in the league. With sweeping long-term changes now being planned by ENIC, a major shift feels overdue.

Spurs revive interest in top target
Tottenham have already brought in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers this past week. But this practical start to the transfer window will need to give way to more ambitious moves, particularly in attack. Manchester City winger Savinho is currently the subject of negotiations between the clubs, as Spurs try again after a failed bid last summer.

While fans are desperate for a striker, creative struggles have plagued the team for too long. A previously pursued target could help solve that issue.

According to Sports Boom, Tottenham are ready to re-enter the race for Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White this summer—one year after a £60 million deal collapsed at the final hour. Back then, Gibbs-White had already agreed personal terms with Spurs, only for Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis to derail the move with a lucrative contract offer to keep him at the City Ground.

Now, Tottenham face stiff competition from several Premier League rivals, with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester United also tracking Gibbs-White. Despite a standout season for Forest, the midfielder was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad—an omission that could open the door for Spurs to strike.

Why Gibbs-White could outshine Savinho for Spurs
As the summer window officially approaches, Tottenham clearly need to revamp their creative department. Gibbs-White would be an ideal fit—not only bringing more invention on the ball but also adding a combative edge to Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield.

Like Savinho, Gibbs-White has been overlooked by his national team ahead of the World Cup, yet the Forest star’s case is arguably much stronger.

Coming off an exceptional individual season, Gibbs-White has showcased two sides of his game over the past two years: silky and elegant in a high-flying Forest system in 2024/25, then more resilient and talismanic this past season as he helped his side battle relegation.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs can land Gibbs-White, but there is little doubt he could make a major impact—potentially surpassing what Savinho would bring.

The 22-year-old Brazilian is undoubtedly talented, fast, and dangerous out wide, but he started only seven Premier League games for Pep Guardiola last season, and even during a more active campaign the year before, he scored just one goal.

Tottenham can no longer afford cautious, incremental progress over the coming years. Fans expect significant changes heading into the 2026/27 season. Gibbs-White has already shown willingness to leave Nottingham Forest for Spurs.

Although Champions League football is no longer on the table, Tottenham may still tempt him to become the centerpiece of De Zerbi’s exciting project—provided they can fend off plenty of competition.
