Don Goodman Weighs In on Kieran McKenna’s Chances with Ipswich Town

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has shared his verdict on Kieran McKenna’s managerial job at Ipswich Town, amid the team’s relegation crisis. According to Goodman, McKenna is well-positioned to lead Ipswich back to the Premier League next season.

Despite being linked to top-flight roles last summer, McKenna is unlikely to receive a Premier League offer this time around, which Goodman believes could be a blessing in disguise. “I think Kieran McKenna will look at the Ipswich squad and next season’s Championship and feel confident about pushing for automatic promotion again,” Goodman stated.

Goodman noted that the only scenario that might change things is if McKenna receives an offer from a club abroad. However, he believes Ipswich is well-positioned for another promotion challenge, and McKenna will likely want to lead the charge.

Regarding the team’s squad, Goodman expects striker Liam Delap to depart, with 12 goals in his debut Premier League campaign making him an attractive prospect for other clubs. However, he doesn’t foresee a major exodus at Portman Road. “Other than Delap, I don’t think Ipswich will need to sell anyone,” Goodman said.

Goodman added that the experience of playing top-flight football will benefit the squad if they stay together for another promotion push. “They’ve learned what the Premier League demands. There’s plenty to be positive about at Ipswich despite the relegation.” He expects Delap to be the only key player they lose that they’d really want to keep.
