Jamie Carragher drops verdict on Wolves manager Vitor Pereira live on Monday Night Football

Wolves fans are in dreamland at the moment – and it’s all thanks to Vitor Pereira.

On Sunday, Wanderers beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford, to make it five on the spin in the Premier League.

It is the first-time that’s ever happened for the club in the Premier League, and the first time the club have won five top-flight matches in a row since 1970.

Wolves have also done the double over Manchester United for the first time since the 1979/80 season.

Vitor Pereira has been a revelation since he replaced Gary O’Neil in December at Molineux

.

Wolves had just nine points on the board, and were five adrift of safety.

Wolves are now on 38 points, and mathematically safe from relegation.

Not only has Pereira improved the team, but he has also restored the feel-good factor at the club and established a genuine connection with the fans.

And his efforts have not been lost on Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Jamie Carragher drops glowing Vitor Pereira assessment after five months at Wolves

Wolves are the form team in the Premier League right now.

Winning five games in a row is something most fans never thought they would see given what a disaster the first half of the season was.

But Pereira – who Alan Shearer believes has brought confidence and belief to Wolves – has been transformative for Wolves. And last night on Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher gave the Portuguese his flowers.

He said: “Brilliant. We knew they had defensive problems when he came in. He’s certainly looked at that and fixed that. But when you look at the run they’re on now, even scoring four last week against Tottenham as well… we’ve enjoyed him since he’s come here!

“He gave an interview to us on a Monday Night Football show a few months ago and he came across really well. Listen, he’s a really experienced coach, and he’s proving he’s more than experienced – he’s a top coach!”

Lens manager Will Still, a special guest on the programme, added: “I love his energy, I love what he’s brought to the club and I love the way he communicates that to the players and the outside world.”

Pereira deserves big backing from Fosun

People outside the Wolves sphere are now started to see the work Pereira is doing at Molineux, and it was great to see him get some acknowledgment last night on Monday Night Football.

Because he truly deserves it for the tremendous job he’s done.

Wolves genuinely look down and out under O’Neil, with performances poor and players struggling to keep their discipline.

What is paramount now is that Fosun provide him with the tools he needs to kick on.

Wolves fans saw Julen Lopetegui leave the club in 2023 because he felt the owners moved the goalposts on him regarding player recruitment.

Bruno Lage and Gary O’Neil also both complained about squad depth.

Fosun – who reportedly want to adopt their self-sustaining model again this summer – appear to be sitting on a gem with Pereira, but they must be willing to bend a little to the manager’s needs.
