Nottingham Forest targeting £40m ‘fox in the box’ as potential Taiwo Awoniyi replacement

TBR Football has received fresh insight into who Nottingham Forest could target to replace Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Nigerian striker has struggled throughout the 2024/25 campaign, making only three Premier League starts after slipping behind Chris Wood in the attacking hierarchy.

With Nuno Espirito Santo set to lead Forest into European competition next season, the squad will require reinforcements across multiple areas — including up front.

According to sources, Nottingham Forest are now keeping close tabs on Bournemouth striker Evanilson, amid growing uncertainty surrounding Awoniyi’s future at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest Interested in Evanilson

Graeme Bailey, Chief Correspondent at TBR Football, reports that Forest may make a move for the Brazilian forward this summer.

The club had shown interest in Evanilson before his £40 million switch to Bournemouth in August 2024, where he joined as a successor to Dominic Solanke.

With Awoniyi netting just two goals in 28 appearances, it is understood Forest are open to offloading the Nigerian as Nuno seeks fresh competition for Wood.

TBR Football also notes that Newcastle United and Aston Villa are monitoring Evanilson, who has impressed this season with 11 goals in 28 matches across all competitions.

Forest Also Tracking Matheus Cunha

Evanilson isn’t the only Brazilian forward on Forest’s radar. Sources have revealed the club is also keen on Matheus Cunha, and may even break their transfer record to land the Wolves No.10, should a deal become feasible.

Cunha recently signed a new deal at Molineux, which includes a £63 million release clause — a figure considered justifiable given his return of 15 goals in 29 games this season.

The forward has hinted at a desire to join a more ambitious club, potentially paving the way for a summer departure.
