‘Approach’ made for Nottingham Forest player as Nuno faces summer reshuffle

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Carlos Miguel has reportedly attracted interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old joined Forest from Corinthians last summer but has made just three appearances so far. Serving as a backup to first-choice keeper Matz Sels, Miguel’s playing time has been limited to cup matches, and he is currently recovering from a hamstring injury.

Amidst his limited playing time, Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte reports that Miguel could be set for a move back to Brazil. Cruzeiro is said to have made an approach to the goalkeeper last Thursday, although the discussions have not yet progressed into formal negotiations.

The club’s board is reported to have reached out to Miguel’s representatives to assess his situation at Forest. His agent, Gilmar Veloz, is said to have indicated that while Miguel is happy at Forest, a return to Brazil in the summer has not been ruled out.

The report suggests Miguel’s future remains uncertain, with interest also coming from Europe. Cruzeiro manager Leonardo Jardim is said to regard Miguel as one of the best Brazilian goalkeepers playing abroad and recommended him to the club’s executive director of football, Alexandre Mattos.

Miguel has been sidelined since February due to a hamstring injury sustained during the FA Cup match against Exeter City. He was replaced by Sels in the 60th minute as Forest progressed to the next round via a penalty shootout.

Since then, Wayne Hennessey has served as Sels’ backup. However, instead of opting for Hennessey in the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Ipswich Town, manager Nuno Espírito Santo chose to keep his first-choice keeper in goal.

Forest will likely review their goalkeeping options in the summer. Hennessey’s contract expires then, and he has an offer to join Wales Under-21s’ coaching staff.

Miguel’s contract runs until the summer of 2028, while Sels is signed until 2027. The club will also need to make a decision on Matt Turner when he returns from his loan at Crystal Palace at the end of the season.
