Report: Leeds United eye move for exciting attacker who once set a record for 24 assists in a season

Leeds United are now being linked with a surprise move for a promotion rival’s £16m attacker ahead of the January transfer window, with the player’s camp aware of the interest.

Leeds are unlikely to be largely active in the transfer window given Daniel Farke has plenty of options that he can call on. But, there are a couple of gaps in the squad – notably, cover for Brenden Aaronson at 10.

The Leeds boss will also be aware that The Whites only signed Connor Roberts in January 2024 and it saw Ipswich steal a march on Leeds towards the end of 2023-24, able to call on the depth they had recruited.

It might also be that Leeds are forced into replacing some of their stars, with six Leeds players currently linked with the exit door. The likes of Patrick Bamford, Illan Meslier and Max Wober are generating links.

Leeds United want to sign Burnley outcast Mike Tresor

Tresor, 25, is firmly befitting of the term outcast at the moment. A two-time Belgium international, Tresor joined Burnley on loan from Genk in the summer of 2023 but with an obligation to buy Tresor for £16m.

Relegation did not stop that obligation from becoming active, even after Tresor had only played 19 times for The Clarets last season. Since then, Tresor has failed to play a single minute for Scott Parker this term.

Now, Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon channel that Leeds are interested in Tresor ahead of January and the player’s camp are aware. Nixon says Burnley owner Alan Pace wants to see him play before he’s sold.

Burnley move a nightmare after glorious Genk form in 2022-23

It couldn’t have gone much worse for Tresor at Turf Moor since his move from Genk. But it comes after the Belgian broke the assist record in the Jupiler League during the 2022-23 season, with 24 assists.

It was a record that had not been previously broken since 1999, set by Branko Strupar. Clearly, there is a player in Tresor but he needs the right home and whether that is Leeds, remains to be seen.

Certainly, Tresor is the kind of player able to play anywhere in the final third and that would certainly give Farke another weapon in the final third. But it is unlikely Burnley are willing to bolster a promotion rival.

However, if Leeds offer a permanent escape route for Tresor, it could see Burnley recoup some of the cash they have invested on Tresor and may tempt Burnley’s owners even if it does strengthen Farke’s side.
