Alan Brazil reacts to ‘interesting’ Rangers takeover news he’s personally been told

Alan Brazil has given his verdict on some “interesting” news he’s been told with regards to the Rangers takeover situation.

Rangers fans have certainly been put through the wringer this season amid a dismal domestic campaign on multiple fronts, with the prospect of a trophyless season looking all-but certain before March had begun.

The Gers controversially lost the League Cup final to Celtic on penalties and sit 16 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Premiership, as well as exiting the Scottish Cup in embarrassing circumstances.

Brazil has taken plenty of delight in Rangers’ plight this season, but with changes aplenty on the horizon at Ibrox, the Light Blues could be set to retake the upper hand in Glasgow’s footballing supremacy.

49ers Enterprises takeover to ‘lift’ Rangers in Brazil verdict

Those changes at Ibrox are set to come in the form of 49ers Enterprises enterprises purchasing a 51 per cent stake in Rangers, with a deal agreed in principle following months of talks between the two parties.

The 49ers coming on board promises to help Rangers close the gap on Celtic, and speaking on talkSPORT (5 March, 6:21am), Brazil expects an “interesting” future at Ibrox with the US group on board.

He said: “The big news of course is Rangers – it looks as if that [takeover] goes through. That’ll be interesting, with the San Francisco 49ers putting money in.

“That’ll give them a little lift. Of course, they’ve got part of Leeds as well. I was told it’s advanced talks.”

Rangers ready to re-take mantle from Celtic with 49ers on board

Rangers being taken over by an organisation responsible for fellow sporting giants like Leeds United and the San Francisco 49ers will surely stand them in good stead in the landscape of Scottish football.

The primary task at Ibrox – regardless of their Europa League exploits in recent seasons – is to finish above and beat Celtic by any means necessary, and that hasn’t happened often enough of late.

A 3-0 win over the Hoops at Ibrox in January threatened to bring Rangers back into the Premiership title race, but dismal results either side of the Old Firm and since proved to be the end of Philippe Clement.

The 49ers, therefore, will have a managerial hire at the top of their agenda when taking charge in the summer; something which arguably would have been in the pipeline prior to Clement being sacked.

Rangers’ takeover certainly doesn’t mean an overnight fix is on the cards, but if a platform can be built to challenge Celtic on a regular basis, the Bears could soon be ruling the roost in Glasgow once more.
