Behind the scenes at Auchenhowie shows Barry Ferguson standard, with one Rangers player standout

The Barry Ferguson era started with a bang as the former skipper saw the sort of comeback that he would have led as a Rangers player.

It was the change of tactics from the Rangers Manager that made a difference with a renewed mentality instilled in a squad that long looked like they didn’t have the strength to carry the weight of the famous jersey.

It isn’t just on the pitch that there has been a noticeable difference, the training ground video released before Rangers clash against Motherwell at Ibrox told 1000 words.

The difference noticed in Rangers training under Barry Ferguson

Buoyed by the return of Dujon Sterling, Leon Balogun and John Souttar to training, Ferguson set his lieutenants to work in a session that saw his players given one target.

Intensity.

Neil McCann, Issame Charai and, in particular, Billy Dodds, can all be heard encouraging and motivating players to move the ball quicker throughout a series of drills but whilst also keeping on top of the quality too.

Part of the reason Rangers scored four goals against Kilmarnock was an increased speed in which the ball was moved to open up shooting opportunities.

Who impressed in training?

With the ball moving quickly and the coaches demanding that the tempo be kept high, quality of passing makes a huge difference.

Someone who stood out was Bailey Rice.

It didn’t matter how fast the ball arrived at his feet, he would caress it into the path of an onrushing teammate or move it round the corner with an ease that most of his senior colleagues didn’t possess.

Every pass he made stayed flat, there were no bobbling balls or knee-high passes from the teenage midfielder demonstrating his ability off either foot in the process,

With a former midfield prodigy watching on, if anyone could identify someone with the potential to make the step up to the first team engine room, it’s Barry Ferguson.
