Gustaf Lagerbielke is currently on loan from Celtic to FC Twente.
Signed by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, Lagerbielke saw limited action after his summer transfer and quickly became the club’s fifth-choice defender.
With little playing time under Rodgers, Lagerbielke moved to the Eredivisie, joining FC Twente on loan for the remainder of the season.
Impressing at Twente, the club’s sporting director, Jan Streuer, has expressed interest in making the move permanent but has revealed that Celtic has not provided any clarity about Lagerbielke’s long-term future.
Streuer told ESPN’s Goedemorgen Eredivisie, “We’ll have to wait and see. It’s also important what Celtic wants. Do they want to keep him? Do they see potential in him or not? For us, he is a good player, with a strong mentality and good heading ability. He’s improving. But we have no idea what Celtic’s stance is. Do they have good players in that position? Perhaps they want to loan him out for another year. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Comparing Lagerbielke’s playing time at Celtic and FC Twente:
At Celtic, Lagerbielke made 10 appearances, played 576 minutes, and didn’t register any goals or assists. At FC Twente, he has made 24 appearances, played 1,679 minutes, and scored 2 goals, with an average rating of 7.22.
It seems unlikely that Lagerbielke will play for Celtic again, and the best course of action for all parties may be to find him a permanent move once his loan expires at the end of the season.
