Bruno Guimaraes’ position change at Newcastle United has unleashed a new side to his game.

Eddie Howe has struck a brilliant balance in Newcastle United’s midfield this season. At first, it appeared difficult to juggle the star-studded trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.

But shifting Tonali into a deeper role sparked a nine-game winning streak that has pushed Newcastle back into the equation for Champions League qualification as well as reaching the 2025 Carabao Cup final.

Tonali playing deeper in midfield has enhanced Guimaraes’ attacking play with the Brazilian free to roam forward and join Newcastle’s attack.

Guimaraes has already scored two goals and provided eight assists this season – only Jacob Murphy has provided more for Newcastle.

Bruno Guimaraes tops impressive Premier League stat

A large part of Guimaraes’ new role in midfield is creating a link between midfield and attack.

Newcastle have plenty of pace up front with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon always looking for space in behind the opposition’s defence.

More often than not, it is down to Guimaraes to pick that line-breaking pass, and one stat proves that he has become a passing specialist.

According to Squawka, Guimaraes has played more accurate through balls than any other Premier League player this season.

The only other player in the Premier League to reach 10 or more this season is Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, but the Gunners star is still one behind Guimaraes.

Latest Bruno Guimaraes contract update

Guimaraes has become a key player and club captain at Newcastle, and the 27-year-old has fallen in love with the city and its fans.

It was reported over the summer that Manchester City want to sign Guimaraes, with Pep Guardiola a huge admirer of the Toon star.

However, Newcastle are looking to put an end to the transfer speculation by planning a new contract offer for Guimaraes.

Guimaraes currently earns £160,000 per week on a contract valid until 2028, but Newcastle are ready to offer him a new deal that reflects his huge importance in Howe’s squad.

Guimaraes will stay as Newcastle’s top earner if he agrees to Newcastle’s latest proposal. Newcastle are also planning talks with Alexander Isak at the end of the season.
