Roy Keane busts a Celtic + Nottingham Forest myth as he gets one thing straight over what he thinks about pair

Roy Keane has offered a blunt take on his connection to Celtic, Nottingham Forest, and Manchester United.

The fiery pundit, once a tough-tackling midfielder feared across the globe, spent most of his career at Manchester United after beginning at Nottingham Forest, later finishing his playing days at Celtic. He went on to manage Sunderland and Ipswich Town before transitioning to a pundit role with outlets like Sky Sports.

Keane discussed his feelings for former clubs on the Stick to Football Podcast and dismissed the notion of having any strong affinity for them, labeling it as a myth, including for both Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

He said, “I don’t have that [affinity] with the clubs I’ve played for. I don’t support Manchester United, absolutely not. I don’t support Nottingham Forest. No, you get a better understanding of how the clubs work and the expectations, but I wouldn’t call myself a fan – their results don’t dictate how my weekend goes.”

“I wouldn’t go home and say, ‘Yes, what a great win.’ I look at it more professionally. Their loss wouldn’t ruin my weekend. It’s the same for Forest or Celtic, the clubs I was involved with, absolutely not.”

In a previous 2024 interview, Keane revealed that when leaving United, he had the chance to join Real Madrid but chose Celtic instead. He recalled, “When I left United, I went up to Celtic, but I could’ve gone to Real Madrid for a year and a half.”

“It was a bit [emotional], which I’m fine with, but I was 34 and just thought, would I have an impact [at Real]?”
