Controversial from Textor: Crystal Palace could now sell £50m star alongside Guehi this summer

Crystal Palace could be set to approve a highly unpopular sale alongside Marc Guehi this summer, with controversial owner John Textor reportedly pushing for the deal to go through, according to a recent report.

Crystal Palace may sell Marc Guehi
It seems increasingly likely that Crystal Palace will part ways with club captain Marc Guehi this summer, after successfully fending off bids from Premier League rivals in the past two transfer windows.

The former Chelsea academy graduate’s contract runs until 2026, meaning this summer represents the club’s last chance to sell him for a significant fee. Despite Guehi’s importance to manager Oliver Glasner, there has been no indication that he is open to signing a new deal at Selhurst Park.

Guehi attracted strong interest last summer, with Newcastle United having multiple offers rejected as they sought to strengthen their defense, while Tottenham made a late £70m bid in January before eventually moving for Kevin Danso from Lens.

After losing Trevoh Chalobah’s loan return to Chelsea and Chadi Riad to a long-term injury, Palace couldn’t afford to let another key defender leave in the final days of the window.

Now, with several clubs circling, Chelsea are believed to be leading the race for Guehi’s signature, though Tottenham, Newcastle, and Liverpool are also interested. While his departure is almost certain, Palace may face another tough sale this summer—one that will likely be met with strong disapproval from their fans.

Textor could sell Mateta for £50m
According to The Sun, John Textor is also reportedly pushing for a controversial move that could see Jean-Philippe Mateta leave for Lyon this summer. Textor, who also owns Lyon, is said to want the French club to submit a bid for the 27-year-old striker, who has impressed under Glasner.

Mateta’s form this season—scoring 13 goals so far—has attracted attention from top European clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester United. A fan favorite at Selhurst Park, Palace are said to value Mateta at £50m, especially given that his contract doesn’t expire until 2027.

Despite his popularity at Palace, Mateta is reportedly keen to join a top-tier club, which could see Lyon out of the picture if he continues to attract interest from Europe’s elite. If both Guehi and Mateta depart, it would be a challenging summer for Palace to recover from.
