Everton fans to ‘hate’ what Andy Goldstein said live on air, Darren Bent agrees

Andy Goldstein has predicted that Everton fans will dislike him after claiming that the club’s league aspirations have significantly diminished.

Over the past three seasons, the Toffees have failed to finish higher than 15th in the Premier League, with Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche helping the club avoid relegation.

Under Dyche, who was in charge until recently, the club seemed on course for yet another relegation battle. However, David Moyes has already shifted the culture, securing three consecutive victories.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [4 February, 6:10pm], Goldstein remarked, “At the start of the season, when you look at a club like Everton, Everton fans are going to hate me for saying this…

“Recently, Everton’s goal has simply been to ‘stay up’ in the Premier League. They’re a much bigger club than just ‘stay up.’”

Darren Bent agreed, adding, “Yeah, stay up.”

Everton’s Escape from the Relegation Battle

There has been a noticeable lack of ambition at Goodison Park in recent seasons, with former owner Farhad Moshiri becoming a controversial figure due to this issue.

While the club has been restricted by Profit and Sustainability Rules, limiting their activity in the transfer market, this situation is now changing under new ownership.

The Friedkin Group has already won over supporters by replacing Dyche with Moyes, a decision that appears to have been spot-on given the team’s three straight wins.

With victories over Tottenham, Brighton, and Leicester City, Everton have pulled nine points clear of the relegation zone, and Moyes’ return to Goodison Park has been met with enthusiasm.

Though there’s still much to be done for the club to challenge for a higher Premier League position, early signs under the new ownership are promising.
