Wolves could be at risk of a dressing room mutiny if the club doesn’t address the future of Matheus Cunha and Mario Lemina.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed that there are “obviously issues” that Vitor Pereira needs to address so the focus can be back on trying to keep the club in the Premier League.
Wolves currently sit 17th in the table, but Pereira has been dealing with issues off the field after Lemina revealed he wants to quit the club while Cunha has stalled on his own contract negotiations.
Lemina had to be stripped of his captaincy earlier this season after an on-field issue with Jarrod Bowen while Cunha was involved in his own controversy after he had an altercation with an Ipswich coach.
Cunha is currently the center of a transfer battle between Arsenal and Nottingham Forest as both clubs are aiming to sign him, but Robinson believes his departure could have a significant impact on their chances of survival.
Vitor Pereira must solve Wolves’ ongoing issues
“[It] could be the difference between them staying up and getting relegated,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“Cunha has had that much of an impact.
“They’ll struggle without him, but his attitude, his application, his desire has got to be there, we saw it at the end of Gary O’Neill’s tenure at Wolves.
“The discipline was slipping, there was a lot of dressing room unrest, and you thought with Vitor Pereira coming in, you thought that would change.
“But actually, with Lemina saying that he wants to leave the club, Cunha, you know, little bit of, actually the manager hung him out to dry a little bit in public, didn’t he?
“He said that’s not what he wants from his captain.
“That’s not the body language, not what he wants to see from his captain.
“So there’s obviously issues there that the manager feels he needs to address, whether it be in-house or actually openly.
“If he’s going to be a problem between now and end of the season, you cash in and you give the manager the money to go and get the better players and strengthen the squad in all areas.”
