Brighton have reportedly made a verbal offer to sign a new midfielder for Fabian Hurzeler before the January transfer window closes, with the club having already received a response.
Brighton’s Form and Transfer Plans After a strong start to the 2024-25 Premier League season under Hurzeler, Brighton’s form dipped. Although they haven’t lost since mid-December, their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town marked their first win in nine games, with six draws and missed opportunities to gain ground in the European qualification race.
Currently in 9th place, Brighton are just two points away from a European spot and six points off the top four, thanks to a return to winning ways with consecutive victories. Their upcoming fixtures could determine the success of their season, with matches against relegation-threatened Everton and Southampton, as well as key clashes with teams ahead of them in the table.

Having made significant investments in the summer, breaking their transfer record multiple times, Brighton have been relatively quiet this month, with player exits taking center stage. Julio Enciso has moved to Ipswich Town on loan, and Evan Ferguson could potentially leave on loan before the window closes. However, there is now some activity on the incoming side as Brighton aim to future-proof their squad.
Brighton’s Verbal Offer for Habib Diarra According to French outlet L’Equipe, Brighton are keen to sign Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra this month and have made a verbal offer to secure the promising talent. Diarra, who has been described as “excellent” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, has started 17 times in Ligue 1 this season and captains Strasbourg at just 21 years old. With four goals and two assists so far, Diarra is gaining attention as one of France’s brightest emerging stars.
Brighton have reportedly offered €23m (£19.4m) for the midfielder, and have made contact with BlueCo, the group that also owns Chelsea, in hopes of finalizing the deal. However, Strasbourg are expected to demand a higher fee, with reports suggesting they are looking for an offer of at least £20m to part with their captain mid-season.
Diarra is a highly sought-after player, with Everton also linked to him and Chelsea remaining an option due to their connection with Strasbourg, where several of their loanees are currently playing. Nonetheless, it appears no club will secure his services for anything less than £20m this month.
