Newcastle United’s eye-watering £200m spend revealed as training ground and stadium plans take shape

Newcastle United have allocated a £200 million budget for their ambitious, state-of-the-art training complex, which aims to be a Premier League leader, according to NewcastleWorld.

Work on the club’s stadium plans, which are still undecided, is expected to begin in around 18 months.

Sources familiar with the plans have revealed that the club’s leadership has set aside the substantial budget to complete the training ground project, which is viewed as a key element in helping Newcastle rise to the top tiers of both the Premier League and global football.

Although stadium developments were anticipated to be the first priority, the training ground will take precedence, with reports from the Daily Mail indicating it will be completed well before any expansion of St James’ Park or, more likely, the construction of a new stadium elsewhere in the city.

That said, stadium plans are still very much on the table, and there is optimism that progress could happen soon, with a potential start date of 2027. While several options are being considered, the club’s board has yet to finalize decisions regarding either a new stadium or redevelopment of the current one.

These developments, both for the training facility and the stadium, should put to rest any doubts about the long-term commitment of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia to Newcastle. Some fans had expressed concerns, particularly on social media, but tangible progress would alleviate those uncertainties.

PIF has consistently reaffirmed its long-term dedication to Newcastle United, and despite frustrations over Premier League restrictions and the pace of progress, abandoning what has only just begun at St James’ Park is not an option.

How much will Newcastle spend on new training facilities?

The £200m budget is significantly larger than other similar Premier League projects, with Leicester City’s £100m complex completed in 2020. However, it still falls short of Paris Saint-Germain’s £240m Campus PSG training center.

Plans for the training ground are already in place, and costs are currently being finalized. An official announcement is expected soon.

The club’s owners spent around £10m on upgrading the current training facilities in Benton, but this was always seen as a temporary solution.

It is understood that the design has been inspired by the club’s recent visit to Adidas’ headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

What are the plans for Newcastle’s new training ground?

The new complex will not only serve the first team but will also include dedicated facilities for the academy and women’s team. A key feature will be a purpose-built stadium where behind-closed-doors games can be held for the junior, youth, women’s, and first-team squads.

Where will Newcastle’s new training ground be located?

While details of the location remain under wraps, NewcastleWorld has learned that a site in North Tyneside, near Killingworth, has been extensively surveyed. Other reports have suggested locations near Newcastle Racecourse, which aligns with this information, or possibly closer to Newcastle Airport.
