Everton have reportedly made an enquiry about a “powerful” striker who could be available for a move this month, with the player’s current club potentially allowing his departure.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent return to form Before David Moyes’ return to Goodison Park, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had struggled to find the net in the Premier League. However, he ended his goal drought by scoring in Everton’s 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.
Moyes was impressed with Calvert-Lewin’s performance, stating: “The biggest thing today is he played like a proper number nine. He made the centre-backs nervous, was a constant threat, challenged well, and won a good portion of his aerial duels. He was involved in everything, showing a lot of positive aspects.”
Despite his recent form, doubts still surround the striker’s future at Everton, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and several clubs linked with a move for him.
As a result, Everton may look to bring in another striker, and they have now made their first official move to sign AS Monaco’s Breel Embolo, inquiring about his availability.
West Ham United have also expressed interest, but Como are reportedly leading the race for Embolo, suggesting there could be significant competition for his signature this month.
Monaco are reportedly open to letting the forward leave, having recently signed Mika Biereth, and Moyes is keen to add to his attacking options, making a potential move for Embolo seem feasible for all parties.
What Embolo could bring to Everton The 27-year-old has significant experience in both the Europa League and the Champions League, and has proven himself in both the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, consistently delivering strong goal-scoring figures over the past five seasons.
Season | League Appearances | Goal Contributions
2019-20: 28 | 16
2020-21: 31 | 11
2021-22: 29 | 13
2022-23: 32 | 14
2023-24: 5 | 1
Embolo missed most of the 2023-24 season due to injury but has since worked his way back into Monaco’s starting lineup, scoring three goals in his last five appearances.
Journalist Josh Bunting praised Embolo at the start of the 2022-23 season, highlighting his key strengths.
While Moyes will be hoping that Calvert-Lewin has found his rhythm after scoring last time out, pursuing Embolo this month could still make sense, given his solid goal-scoring record and off-the-ball movement.
