As Leeds United aim for promotion, they are reportedly considering a move for an attacking player who has already scored nine goals this season.
Leeds Transfer News
Although their January business has yet to begin, Leeds are in a strong position at the top of the Championship and are on track for promotion under Daniel Farke. There’s no need for panic at this stage, but they are still exploring potential signings. Emmanuel Latte Lath, among others, has been linked with the club, and his name may continue to make headlines as the transfer window progresses.
The Middlesbrough striker has been in excellent form this season and could provide Farke with the attacking boost needed to either replace Patrick Bamford or compete with Joel Piroe for a starting spot in the remainder of the campaign.
However, signing a player from a Championship rival won’t come cheap, so Leeds are reportedly considering other options. According to Sky Sports, they are now targeting Willem Geubbels, currently on loan at Swiss side FC St. Gallen, with a view to bringing him in for the rest of the season. This move would help Leeds fend off competition from clubs like West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City, while adding a striker with an eye for goal.
At just 23 years old, Geubbels is still developing but has already netted nine goals in 23 appearances for St. Gallen this season. His form has earned the attention of Leeds and the 49ers, and he could soon return to prominence following his departure from AS Monaco in 2023.
A Potential Upgrade for Leeds
After a promising start to his career at Lyon, Geubbels struggled to live up to expectations at Monaco. However, he has found his rhythm over the last two seasons at St. Gallen, and his performances may have positioned him for a return to the top level. Known for his speed and creativity, as described by The Rangers Journal, the French forward could offer an upgrade on Bamford, who has yet to score or start in the Championship this season.
A loan move for the 23-year-old could be a smart gamble for Leeds as they push towards promotion and possibly a title challenge by May.
