Sean Dyche’s dismissal from Everton has somewhat been overshadowed by the return of David Moyes as manager.
Nearly two weeks have passed since Dyche left Goodison Park, and Moyes has already re-established himself at the helm. Despite Moyes’ own frustration with Everton’s decline, he secured his first win against Tottenham on Sunday, a feat Dyche failed to achieve in his last five matches.
The atmosphere around the club seems to have improved with Moyes back in charge, though one can’t help but sympathize with Dyche, who was treated unfairly by some Everton players.
Now, the first Everton player has publicly shared their thoughts on Dyche’s departure.
Asmir Begovic, Everton’s backup goalkeeper, was taken aback by Dyche’s exit.
Begovic spoke about Dyche’s tenure on Seaman Says (14:54), explaining that Dyche had reached the limit of what he could do under difficult circumstances, including a point deduction.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Sean,” Begovic said. “Considering everything, like the point deduction, which is rare in the Premier League, it’s a results-based business. We had a couple of poor results against Forest and Bournemouth. Before that, I thought we were solid, but things can change quickly, and the mood around the club shifted. That’s the harsh reality of the business. It was tough to see him go, and we all feel responsible.”
Turning to Moyes’ return, Begovic shared his thoughts on how the manager’s experience and familiarity with the club offer a positive outlook.
“With Moyes back, there’s a boost,” Begovic continued. “His stature and experience will resonate with the fans. He knows the club well, so the pressure from fans won’t overwhelm him. He’s also highly familiar with the Premier League, so it’s a smart choice.”
While only time will tell if Begovic’s optimism about Moyes proves right, the key hope for Everton fans remains that the club retains its Premier League status.
