David Moyes already set to address big issue he spotted on Match of the Day before he joined Everton

Everton have a chance to make a significant impact in the January transfer market as the threat of relegation becomes more pressing.

With substantial changes happening behind the scenes at Goodison Park over the past month, it’s not surprising that the Toffees have yet to make their first signing of the January window.

David Moyes is aiming to secure at least two new signings before the transfer deadline, but they may not be the only new faces at Finch Farm this month. Moyes is also considering strengthening the club off the pitch.

Leighton Baines has been promoted to the coaching staff, and more staff additions could be on the horizon.

Moyes has also been linked with bringing in Charlie Adam as part of his backroom team at Everton. While Billy McKinlay was appointed assistant manager over the weekend, Moyes acknowledges that further staff changes are needed.

In a media interview on Friday, Moyes confirmed Adam is among the candidates being considered for a coaching role, particularly focused on set-piece responsibilities.

“I’m looking to bring in someone to handle set pieces, and Charlie is one of several names that have come up,” said Moyes. “I’ve had a lot of interest from some very good people, so the decision hasn’t been made yet, but we hope to get closer to a decision soon.”

Baines has already been tasked with developing Vitaliy Mykolenko, Everton’s sole senior left-back, but there are still other areas of the team that require improvement.

Moyes also emphasized the need for improvements in set pieces. Despite praise from Martin Keown following Everton’s win over Wolves, Moyes feels the team must do better in this area, as well as in their overall defensive play.

“The team gave away goals that were uncharacteristic of them,” Moyes said after a heavy defeat to Manchester United. “They need to be stronger defensively and get their set-pieces working again, as they’ve been solid in both defending and attacking set pieces over the last couple of years.”

It’s clear Moyes is seeking a dedicated coach to focus on set pieces, and Charlie Adam could soon be joining the staff to fulfill that role.
