‘Criminally underrated’: £50m star from PL rival stunned by Nottingham Forest ace when he played against him

Nottingham Forest have garnered significant attention this season, currently sitting in third place in the Premier League as they pass the halfway point of the campaign.

Tonight, Forest face Liverpool, knowing that a defeat would leave them in third, but with seven consecutive wins under their belt, they’ll be focused on maintaining their momentum.

Several players have stood out this season, including Elliot Anderson, who has received praise from Alan Shearer, while Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo, and Nikola Milenkovic have also earned recognition at various points. Joe Hart has been particularly impressed by Matz Sels, and Chris Wood has been a standout, scoring 12 goals in the 2024/25 season, making him the club’s leading Premier League goalscorer.

It’s clear that Premier League defenders aren’t fond of facing Wood, with one player in particular, Antoine Semenyo, recently praising his ability. During a rare interview with Ball Talk on YouTube, Semenyo was asked who he thinks is the most underrated forward in the Premier League. Without hesitation, he named Chris Wood, highlighting his crucial role for Forest.

Semenyo explained: “I’d say Chris Wood at Nottingham Forest. What that man does for them is so important to their play and how they win games. He might not be the most eye-catching, but he does the basics perfectly—winning headers, bringing others into play, and winning every aerial duel. When we played them away, he was unstoppable. The ball just seemed to stick to him. He’s criminally underrated, he’s so good.”

Chris Wood has certainly impressed this season, with 12 goals in 20 appearances. Shay Given even gave him a new nickname due to his consistent scoring form. Forest’s £15 million investment in Wood is paying off, as he continues to be a key figure in the team, following a slow start at the City Ground.

With just six months left on his current contract, Wood is reportedly close to agreeing to an extension, which would be a smart move for the club, especially with growing interest in Taiwo Awoniyi from West Ham. Despite being 33, Wood’s value to Forest is undeniable, and the club can’t afford to lose him anytime soon.
