Chris Wood shares what Taiwo Awoniyi has been doing that Nottingham Forest fans won’t be aware of

Nottingham Forest triumphed over Wolves at Molineux on Monday, extending their winning streak to six games and bringing their tally to 40 points from 20 matches.

Nuno Espirito Santo praised goalkeeper Matz Sels for his key contributions, with his exceptional saves playing a pivotal role in Forest’s 3-0 victory.

Morgan Gibbs-White sparked celebrations with a goal just seven minutes in, while Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi added goals later in the match.

The performance was another impressive display from a team that simply can’t stop winning, earning continued praise for their outstanding form.

Alan Shearer included three Forest players, along with Espirito Santo as head coach, in his Team of the Week, further highlighting the team’s impressive run.

Chris Wood paid tribute to teammate Taiwo Awoniyi

Perhaps the most heartwarming moment of the win came in the 94th minute when Awoniyi sealed the victory with a tap-in, following excellent assists from Callum Hudson-Odoi and James Ward-Prowse.

It has been a challenging season for Awoniyi in 2024/25 due to injuries and the strong form of Wood limiting his playing time, but his joy was evident after scoring, and his teammates’ celebration reflected their support.

Wood was asked about Awoniyi after the game and praised his hard work, both on and off the field. Speaking to BBC Sport, Wood said, “He’s a big part of us. A fantastic player, and that’s what he wants. He deserves it for all the work he puts in.”

Awoniyi could play a crucial role in Forest’s second half of the season

There have been rumors suggesting that Forest may consider offloading Awoniyi this month, but this seems unlikely given the team’s current lack of center-forwards.

Awoniyi will be hoping for more playing time when Forest face Championship side Luton Town in the FA Cup on Saturday.
