‘Huge offer’ – Wolves’ transfer stance on £15m star made crystal clear as Spurs and Arsenal brace for battle

Wolves are not considering letting Joao Gomes leave this winter, according to Rudy Galetti on X. He added that only a “huge” offer would make them willing to sell, despite interest from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United.

The club is determined to retain the midfielder for the remainder of the season as they aim to stay in the Premier League. They have until the end of the transfer window to make sure he stays.

Wolves’ position on Joao Gomes

Wolves signed Gomes in January 2023 to strengthen their squad, and he has quickly adapted to life in England. He has become an important figure in the midfield at Molineux and has a promising future ahead.

With a contract running until June 2028, Wolves are under no immediate pressure to sell him unless an irresistible offer comes in. The 23-year-old is a Brazil international with nine caps to his name.

Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United may see him as a valuable addition to their midfields, but acquiring him would require a significant financial investment.

Gomes began his career in Flamengo’s youth academy and made his debut for their first team in 2020. He played 122 games for the Brazilian club, scoring four goals. Since moving to Europe, he has made 67 appearances for Wolves, scoring five goals. The Rio de Janeiro native has proven to be a smart signing, and manager Vitor Pereira will be reluctant to let him go anytime soon.

Wolves’ next steps

Wolves will face Bristol City in the FA Cup this weekend, after a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League match.

After the loss to Forest, Pereira commented: “Before the second goal, we created a great chance to equalize. It’s a short squad, and this week we’ve had many problems. We tried, and I’m proud of my players, but it wasn’t enough. We need at least two new players to balance the squad.”

He continued: “We created chances but couldn’t capitalize. The Nottingham Forest goalkeeper made some fantastic saves, and we have to give him credit.”
