🚨Sky Sports: Leeds now eyeing 26 y/o striker for Daniel Farke in loan-to-buy deal

Leeds United are reportedly interested in Hoffenheim striker Mergim Berisha, according to Sky Sports journalist Ben Heckner.

Under Daniel Farke, the Peacocks are in a battle for automatic promotion in the EFL Championship, sitting at the top of the table with 26 games played, just one point ahead of second-placed Burnley. Goals have not been an issue for Leeds, as they are the league’s top scorers with 48 goals so far.

However, Farke may face a decision regarding veteran striker Patrick Bamford, who is reportedly willing to accept a wage cut to leave the club. Senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs has informed GIVEMESPORT that Serie A side Genoa is monitoring the 31-year-old’s situation.

Bamford’s recovery from a significant injury may complicate his potential exit, and Farke may need to bring in a replacement to ensure the team remains well-equipped in attack for the rest of the season.

Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph currently rank ahead of Bamford in the pecking order, but having strength in depth will be crucial for Leeds’ hopes of securing promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds are in competition with Werder Bremen for Berisha’s signature, with reports suggesting that a deal could involve a loan move for the 26-year-old with an option to buy. Berisha has struggled for regular minutes at Hoffenheim, starting just three of his 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring once and providing one assist.

Having been deemed surplus to requirements, Berisha’s departure seems imminent. The striker, a former two-time Germany international, is familiar to former Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, under whom he enjoyed his best form at RB Salzburg, where he scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Marsch had reportedly shown interest in Berisha while still managing Leeds in July 2022.

A loan move could be a suitable option for Leeds, allowing them to strengthen in other areas while adding more firepower to Farke’s squad. According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Leeds are also considering a move for Middlesbrough’s in-form forward Emmanuel Latte Lath, who is attracting Premier League interest.
