🚨BREAKING NEWS: Boss Kieran McKenna says he hopes the Blues will do their January transfer business early on in the window

As reported earlier, Town are in discussions with Atalanta’s Ben Godfrey regarding a loan, while the Blues are also likely to be looking for a new number nine and another forward player.

Prior to news of the Godfrey interest becoming public, McKenna was asked whether talks regarding January additions are up and running.

“We’ve certainly had discussions,” he said. “Discussions start a long time ago but getting players in at the start of January is another matter.

“Each club has their own needs, things can change really, really quickly at the end of December as games come thick and fast and players come into the team, come out of the team, players who you thought might be available are unavailable, players that you thought were unavailable might become available.

“We’re going to try and do our business early in the window if possible. We know that would be a big advantage but we also know we need to be ready right through the month and be ready to improve the squad when the opportunities come.”

There will also be players leaving over the window in order to free up space, while it’s possible Chiedozie Ogbene could be removed from the 25-man squad if his achilles injury means the Republic of Ireland international won’t be involved for the remainder of the season.

“Squad numbers is a consideration that we need to take over the month,” McKenna added.

“I think during January you don’t have that limitation, so it’s not an issue, but certainly by the end of January we need to make sure that the squad’s of the appropriate size and we want everyone who is still in the building to have a chance of playing and contributing in the Premier League games, so that’s what we’ll try and get to.”
