Tottenham are reportedly set to snatch a highly rated prospect from arch-rivals Arsenal, with journalist Gary Ward claiming an agreement is in place for one of the Gunners’ academy stars.
The move adds to what is already shaping up to be a busy summer for Spurs, who have been active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.
Defensive reinforcements have arrived in the form of Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, and Andy Robertson, while midfield targets Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are also being pursued. Savinho is another name being considered to boost the attacking ranks.
The overhaul comes after a difficult spell in the Premier League for the Lilywhites, whose struggles have stood in stark contrast to the fortunes of their north London neighbours.
Arsenal, by comparison, have enjoyed far greater success in the league and appear to require only fine-tuning rather than major surgery. Mikel Arteta’s side are believed to be targeting Morgan Rogers as a potential addition to elevate the team further in the seasons ahead.
Despite their differing transfer priorities, the two clubs are now set to clash over a promising youngster, with Tottenham looking to lure him across the divide.
Spurs Closing In On Kyran Thompson
According to Spurs insider Ward, Tottenham are nearing a deal to bring 16-year-old Kyran Thompson to the club this summer, with an agreement already in place for him to leave Arsenal and join their academy setup for the upcoming season.
Thompson proved his versatility last term, featuring mainly as a centre-forward or right-winger, though he also saw minutes on the left. While much of his football came with Arsenal’s under-18s, he also earned a run-out for the under-21s in Premier League 2 back in November.
The England U17 international has been labelled a “big talent” by Ward, and now looks poised to make the switch across north London in pursuit of greater opportunities.
It wouldn’t be the first time Arsenal have seen a promising academy player depart, and Tottenham will be hoping to capitalise in a similar fashion to another of their London rivals.
A Familiar Blow For Arsenal
In academy football, player movement is part and parcel of development, but Arsenal have previously felt the sting of losing young prospects who later flourished elsewhere.
One standout example is Omari Hutchinson, who left the Gunners on a free transfer to join Chelsea. Within just a couple of seasons, the winger was loaned out and then sold for around £20 million, despite Chelsea playing only a minor role in his early development.
That exit left a bitter taste for Arsenal, and with Thompson now seemingly heading to Tottenham, there are fears history could repeat itself. While the youngster still has plenty of growth ahead, Spurs may well end up profiting from what could be a costly loss for their rivals.
