Wilson Isidor is reportedly open to staying at Sunderland but wants a significant pay rise amid interest from a number of clubs.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Haiti international is wanted by West Ham United and Ipswich Town, while Hull City have also offered £10million for the striker as they continue to assess attacking options.
Nixon reports that Isidor is happy at Sunderland but is looking for a new contract which would effectively double his current wages. He adds that the situation could still change if Sunderland identify and sign a suitable replacement before the end of the transfer window.
The report comes only days after Régis Le Bris was emphatic when asked about Isidor’s future. Speaking after Sunderland’s pre-season win over RC Lens, Le Bris made it clear that he expects the forward to remain on Wearside. “There is no speculation; you can write it,” Le Bris said.
“He is staying, absolutely. He’s happy; he knows his role. Obviously, with 55 games we can’t afford to play with one striker, so at the beginning of the season… it is the same for Habib [Diarra]… We got strong momentum at the end of the season, so the starting XI deserved to go again because they got this credit, but the others were strong also during the season, and we need them during this big challenge ahead, so we need them, and Wilson is excellent.”
That was about as clear as Le Bris could have been. Isidor scored six Premier League goals last season despite playing relatively limited minutes, and Sunderland’s expanded schedule should give him more opportunities during the 2026-27 campaign. Brian Brobbey provides another option through the middle, but Le Bris has stressed that Sunderland cannot go through a season containing Premier League, Europa League and domestic cup football with only one striker.
That should allow Le Bris to rotate his attacking options more regularly, rather than asking one forward to carry the bulk of the workload across competitions. Isidor also received a warm reception from the Roker End when he replaced Brobbey during Sunderland’s final pre-season fixture against Stade Rennais.
