Tottenham Hotspur have taken another step toward signing Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion after the defender agreed to join the club, according to Voetbal International.
Although the summer transfer window does not officially open for another week, Spurs have already been actively shaping their squad. The aim is to avoid a repeat of two 17th‑place Premier League finishes over the past two seasons.
Andy Robertson has already sealed a free transfer to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having agreed to the move back in January. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reports that Marcos Senesi will also join on a free transfer in the coming days.
With those two deals completed for manager Roberto De Zerbi, attention has now turned to more expensive signings that can transform a squad which has struggled domestically for two years.
De Zerbi has already suggested that major changes are needed to turn the club’s fortunes around. Tottenham will also benefit from having no European football to worry about during the 2026‑27 campaign. Last season, Manchester United finished third without the distractions of continental competition, and Spurs will be hoping for a similar boost.
Van Hecke decides he only wants Tottenham
Over the weekend, Brighton CEO Paul Barber revealed that the Seagulls had already rejected two Tottenham bids for their Dutch defender, who is believed to be valued at around £70 million. Spurs are determined to land the 26‑year‑old, but Brighton will only sell if their valuation is met.
According to Voetbal International, despite interest from other Premier League clubs and previous contact with Liverpool, Van Hecke has decided he only wants to join Tottenham. After holding talks with De Zerbi, he is keen to link up with the Italian manager for a second time.
The report adds that personal terms have already been agreed with Spurs, leaving only a club‑to‑club agreement outstanding. Van Hecke is said to want the move completed soon so he can focus on the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign knowing where he will be playing next season.
Savinho also agrees personal terms with Tottenham
Tottenham are looking to strengthen multiple areas of the pitch as they freshen up the squad ahead of next season, including the attack. According to Romano, Spurs are making progress on a deal for long‑term winger target Savinho from Manchester City – a year after they first tried to bring him to north London.
A fresh claim from an Italian journalist says the Brazilian has already agreed personal terms on a five‑year contract with Tottenham, leaving only the club‑to‑club agreement to be finalised – similar to the Van Hecke situation.
Savinho primarily operates on the left flank but can also play on the right, meaning he would compete with the likes of Mathys Tel and Dejan Kulusevski for a place in De Zerbi’s starting lineup.
