Nottingham Forest are in a strong position to secure the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall when the summer transfer window opens, according to former Everton CEO Keith Wyness.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Wyness suggested that Forest will present an “interesting” project to the 20-year-old, who has already expressed his desire to leave Spurs at the end of the season. Forest view Bergvall as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson.
Wyness believes Nuno Espírito Santo’s side can offer the youngster significant playing time, though he admitted that the level of interest from other clubs could make negotiations “difficult” for Bergvall’s representatives.
Both Aston Villa and Chelsea made inquiries about Bergvall during the January window and are expected to revive their interest this summer. European clubs are also likely to pursue the Sweden international, who is currently featuring for his country at the World Cup.

Wyness, who served as Everton’s CEO from 2004 to 2009 and now advises elite clubs through his football consultancy, reckons Forest have the financial muscle to put together a compelling contract for Bergvall.
The Midlands club are set to receive £116 million from Anderson’s impending move to Manchester City, leaving them with plenty of resources to invest. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness highlighted that a switch to the City Ground could suit Bergvall well.
“It’s a tough one leaving Spurs, but he may be carrying some scars from last season and want to get away as quickly as possible,” Wyness said.
“Forest will likely offer him a very good deal, and they also have an intriguing project taking shape, especially with the Anderson money coming in. Don’t underestimate Forest’s appeal—they were competing at the top level just two seasons ago. Bergvall and his agent have a difficult choice to make.
“Reading between the lines, Forest might be his best option for regular minutes and better game time. I think he could find himself stuck in a crowded Spurs squad. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see Forest win this race.”

Earlier this week, former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Tottenham are likely to demand around £40 million for Bergvall this summer.
Spurs signed the midfielder from Djurgården in 2024 for just £8.5 million and are now poised to make a “healthy profit.” Borson added that Bergvall has already been informed he is not part of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, though he raised questions about where the player’s expectations might lie for his next club.
While Bergvall may see himself moving directly to another top-tier team, Borson argued that he would be better off joining a club where regular first-team football is all but guaranteed.
