Harry Kane says Christian Eriksen has ‘decision to make’ after ex-Spurs star’s ‘scary’ collapse

Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s friendly match against Ukraine on Sunday, prompting a heartfelt message from his former Tottenham teammate, Harry Kane.

Kane shared an emotional response after Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest during the 2021 European Championship, clutched his chest in the 65th minute of the match at Odense Stadium and fell to the ground. The 34-year-old lost consciousness briefly, leading to the match being halted and later abandoned.

After spending less than 24 hours in the hospital—Eriksen has had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device since his 2021 collapse—he was discharged on Monday and shared a positive update on Instagram.

“I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family,” Eriksen wrote. “As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021.

“I am feeling good, and my recovery has already started. Besides being grateful for the support and assistance from all the players and the medical team on the pitch, I am also incredibly thankful to the doctors who have looked after me and my heart over the years. Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it. For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children.”

Speaking to ITV, Kane said: “I reached out to him today. I haven’t heard back from Chris yet, but he put out a statement saying he’s going to rest up and spend time with his family, which is important.

“I’m sure he’ll have some decisions to make over the next few months, but the main thing is that the defibrillator is there and it worked. I think it’s scary because we all remember what happened last time, and I’m sure his family and his wife Sabrina feel the same.

“So it was a scary moment when I saw the news, to be honest. I’m calmer now knowing he’s okay and that everything worked as it was supposed to. I wish him well, and I’m sure I’ll catch up with him soon.”
